What is the Virtual Learning Program?

The CCPS Virtual Learning Program (VLP) was created to provide students with the opportunity to achieve academic excellence from home in a flexible and engaging learning environment. The program is designed to meet the individual needs of both middle and high school students while preparing them for future academic and career success. Middle school students enrolled in the VLP must have a reliable learning coach, aged 18 or older, to assist in navigating various online instructional platforms and in meeting daily learning expectations.

The goal of the VLP is to create a meaningful educational experience that encourages students to think differently about learning while developing confidence, accountability, innovation, and independent learning skills.

Academic Requirements

Students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Program must meet the following academic expectations:

Students must pass all classes with a 71% or higher.
Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Students are expected to participate in all mandatory state assessments and academic plan meetings when applicable.
Students who fail one or more classes during a nine-week grading period will be placed on academic probation and assigned an individual academic plan with remediation services.
To exit academic probation, students must:
- Meet with the school counselor biweekly (once every two weeks).
- Maintain passing grades in all classes.
Students who do not comply with the requirements outlined in their individual academic plan or are not eligible for promotion to the next grade level may be dismissed from the program.

Attendance

Students are expected to maintain excellent attendance.

No more than 8 unexcused tardies to school.
No more than 8 unexcused absences to school.

Failure to meet this expectation will result in the student being placed on probation for the remainder of the current school year. The student/parent will be required to provide an excuse for all subsequent tardies or absences in accordance with Georgia Board of Education Rule 160-5-1-.10, JB.

Students who fail to meet this expectation may be dismissed from the program.

Academic Performance

All assignments must be completed and submitted by the assigned due date.
Students are expected to stay current with coursework and maintain satisfactory progress in all classes.
All assignments MUST be made up and submitted during the same 4.5-week grading period (nine weeks) in which the assignment was given. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Assignments not submitted within the same grading period may receive a grade of zero.

Student Expectations

Log in on time each school day, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:10 PM.
Attend all live Zoom classes and remain present with the camera on.
Actively participate in class discussions and activities.
Complete and submit all assignments by the due dates.
Check the Canvas Announcement section and email daily for teacher updates.
Maintain academic honesty and complete your own work.
Use the CCPS-issued Chromebook for all instructional activities.
Create a quiet, distraction-free workspace for learning.
Follow all school rules, including appropriate virtual etiquette and dress code.
Ask for help when needed and attend scheduled small group or intervention sessions.
Respect teachers, classmates, and the virtual learning environment.
Per SBOE Rule 160-5-1-.02, VLP students must participate in school learning activities for a minimum of 180 days per school year.

Engagement & Punctuality

Engagement and Punctuality

Students are expected to actively participate in all virtual learning opportunities.

Log in to all scheduled live sessions on time.
Remain in class for the full duration unless excused by the teacher or administration.
Keep cameras ON at all times during class unless the teacher grants permission.
Be clearly visible on camera (face and upper body visible, good lighting, and no objects obstructing the view).
Participate actively in class discussions, polls, and activities.
Keep microphones muted when not speaking.

Course Enrollment

Students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Program must maintain a full academic schedule appropriate for their grade level and graduation requirements.
Students must have appropriate grade-level credits (units) to be accepted into the Virtual Learning Program.
Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress and meet all program requirements to remain enrolled.

Communication

Students are expected to maintain consistent communication with teachers, Learning Coaches, and school staff.

Students must communicate regularly with teachers and respond to messages promptly.
Ask questions when you need help and reach out to teachers during office hours.
Communicate regularly with your Learning Coach and teacher regarding academic progress and needs.
Join academic check-ins, conferences, and support meetings when invited by an instructor.
